Monthly Swap Meet at Grain to Glass Announced

Looking to get into the homebrewing scene, wanting to update your current system, or trying to sell some old equipment? Grain to Glass in North Kansas City has announced that they’ll be having a monthly Swap Meet starting this Sunday in their parking lot. Anyone wanting to buy, sell, or trade their brewing equipment can meet up at Grain to Glass and interact with other homebrewers.

With homebrewer events like the Nanobrew Fest and High Plains Brewhoff and tents at bigger beer events, homebrewing is becoming increasingly more popular. Novices can get advice from experts at the swap meet on what kind of equipment they should be using and experts can try to sell or trade their stuff. It should have a City Market Farmers’ Market feel to it – laid back and relaxed, but still educational.

Grain to Glass is located at 1611 Swift Avenue in North Kansas City and is open from 10am until 4pm on Sundays. The Swap Meet will be every 3rd Sunday of the month starting this Sunday. They will be serving beer inside their store and you can buy all the ingredients you need to start brewing.

BOGO at Rock & Run This Week

Brew Club Members are in for a special treat this week at Rock & Run in Liberty. Now through Friday, members are able to buy one of their House Brews at normal price and get the second one for free. This is a great promotion to get members to bring in friends who have yet to visit Rock & Run. Plus, if your friend signs up for their Brew Club, you each get a free beer! While you’re there, you can get your tickets to their inaugural Rot & Ruin Fall Ale Festival. There will be over 60 beers from over 30 breweries across the Midwest. 4 Hands, Bat Creek, Crane Brewing, Flying Monkey, Torn Label, Martin City, and many others have confirmed their participation and will be bringing dark ales, stouts, and other fall beers. Bus Tour of KC Breweries, High Plains Brewhoff, and Zwanze Day

Saturday is going to be a busy day for beer lovers. A Bus Tour of KC breweries, the inaugural High Plains Brewhoff, and Zwanze Day at Bier Station are all on the list for this Saturday, September 20th.

Big Rip Brewery has arranged a school bus to take people on a tour of the new Kansas City breweries. Ticket holders will meet at Big Rip between 11:15am and noon to check in and pre-drink. The bus will leave at approximately noon and journey to Martin City Brewery, KC Bier Co, Rock and Run, Cinder Block, and return to Big Rip at around 6pm. All Big Rip beer is included in the ticket price, but beer at the other breweries is not included. Tickets are $40 and $35 for Mug Club Members. This is a great way to experience the new breweries with like-minded people and without the hassle of driving! Click here for full details.

At 1pm, get your judge’s hat on so you can judge home brews from both sides of the state line. High Plains Brewhoff, hosted by Brew Lab in old downtown Overland Park, promises to be Kansas’ flagship home brewing competition and festival. With food from local restaurateurs , live music, and your own commemorative tulip glass to sample an unlimited amount of home brews, this event should live up to its promise. There will also be some upcoming breweries there to show off their beers that will be on tap. Red Crow, Torn Label, and Double Shift have all made plans to be there. A lot of unique beers will be at Bier Station for Zwanze Day. What is Zwanze Day? Every year, Cantillon Brewery in Belgium brews an experimental beer called Zwanze. It is the rarest beer in the world. Select bars around the world (and only 24 in the United States) receive just one keg that they tap on Zwanze Day. This year’s Zwanze is a Cuvée De Florian, a dry-hopped lambic aged with cherries and inspired by the 18th birthday of the brewer’s son. Tickets were very limited and went fast, but some General Admission tickets are still available here. You won’t get to try the Zwanze with a GA ticket, but there’s a surprise keg that they’ll be tapping.

From the rarest to the newest, this weekend should be very exciting for beer enthusiasts!

A New Kansas City Beer Blog

For the first post, I would like to explain the purpose for this blog. There are many blogs, websites, subreddits, and other publications that delve into the world of beer in Kansas City, but I would like to delve even deeper! I drink a lot of beer, attend quite a few beer events, and have been to nearly every brewery within 200 miles of Kansas City. I know I can create a comprehensive blog that is full of beer reviews, event descriptions, event pictures, beer pictures, contests, and so much more.

Here’s to water, yeast, malt, and hops (and whatever other ingredients you want to put in your beer)!
