Featured Homebrewers

Not only does Kansas City have a great commercial beer scene, our homebrewers are top notch! Often opening their own breweries or being hired by the big guys, these people put in their time, money, and effort to serve our area with great, creative beers. Check out these local homebrewers.

A KC native and homebrewer for the last 8 years, Krakkrit Brewing Company is a regular at beer festivals. The homebrewery has participated in Great Plains Brewhoff and Festival of the Lost Township in the past, and finished in the top 5 at Brewtopia in 2019. With beers like Batman Gose to Margaritaville and Fresh Brewed Brownies, it’s not just the styles that are creative, the naming of the beers is too!

Do you hear that music? It’s the lovely sound that 3 band teachers make while brewing! Formerly 7 Degrees Brewing, they added another degree in education recently that is reflected by the new name of 8 Degrees Brewing. It’s not just their degrees that are plentiful, they have a wide variety of beers ranging from a French Toast Stout to a Tropical Pale Ale. Not too long after they started brewing together, they won Best Beer and Best Brewery at the 2019 Festival of the Lost Township.

With no festivals to share beer in 2020, Spilt Wort Brewing took it upon themselves to share the beer another way. The homebrewery had several bottle giveaways over the year and gave away beers like a spiced apple graf, black IPA, and a hibiscus saison.  Self-described as a wild brewery who carefully re-imagines traditional brewing ingredients and classic styles, without straying too far from the originals, they focus on pulling out flavors from yeast, hops, and malt to show what a beer can be without any extra frills.
