New Beer Releases

Are you ready to try something new or just in need of your yearly fix of your favorite beer?  A lot of new beers are coming up for release.  From old favorites like Boulevard Chocolate Ale to new brews like Big Rip’s Blackberry Kölsch, here’s a list of upcoming beer releases.

Tuesday, January 27

  • Boulevard Imperial Stout X – Coffee is released in Kansas today.  Missouri will have to wait a few weeks due to a higher than normal backlog of new beer registrations.

Wednesday, January 28

  • Cinder Block Brewery is having a Pilot Night to test out their new Hop Maven beer, a White IPA.  According to their Facebook, it has “a grain bill consisting of traditional Belgian malts and a heaping dose of late American hop additions to give it a burst of BIG citrusy aromatics.”  Try it out for $3 a pour.

Tuesday, February 03

  • Boulevard Chocolate Ale is scheduled to be released in time for Valentine’s Day.  Every year, they produce more of the desirable ale, so it may be a bit easier to grab some.
  • TravelerThe Traveler Beer Co launches in Kansas with Release Parties in Shawnee and Olathe.  The founder of the Vermont brewery, Alan Newman, will be at both locations to share samples of three of their beers:  Curious Traveler (lemon ale), Illusive Traveler (grapefruit ale), and Forbidden Traveler (apple ale).  There will also be fun events and even a see-saw.

Satruday, February 07

  • Bier Station will be celebrating the release of New Belgium‘s La Folie and Transatlantique Kriek with a Lost in the Woods Party.  The party is in conjunction with the Fort Collins, CO brewery celebration of the brewery’s love of sour beers and will include a toast via video from the Colorado celebration.  The event is currently sold out.

Monday, February 09

  • Prairie-Artisan-Ales-logoOn tap in Kansas (finally), Prairie Artisan Ales is having a Launch Party at Barley’s on Midland Drive.  Wesley Morrison from the brewery will be at the event to meet and greet fans of the beers.  Birra Farmhouse Ale, Standard Hoppy Farmhouse Ale, Bomb! Imperial Stout, and Funky Gold Amarillo Dry-Hopped Sour Ale will all be available.

Tuesday, February 10

  • Time for Missouri to get something late – Boulevard projects to release their Imperial Stout X – Coffee on this day.

Saturday, February 14

  • Happy Valentine’s Day!  Get to The Big Rip Brewing Company to try their new beers:  their popular Delta 88 with Apricots, Brown Sugar, and Peppercorns and a Blackberry Kölsch.

It’s new beer season, so get out and try something new and exciting!

2014 Holiday Gift Guide for Kansas City Beer Lovers

If you haven’t started your holiday gift shopping yet, this weather should jump start it.  With the winter wonderland outside and Christmas one week away, ’tis the season to be shopping.  Here’s your 2014 Holiday Gift Guide for Kansas City Beer Lovers.

 

Big Rip Brewing Company

T-shirts, magnets,Hoodie pint glasses, growlers, hoodies, calendars and more make up Big Rip’s selection of gifts.  The gifts range from $2 for the magnet to $50 for the hoodie, so it’s a perfect gift shopping stop for the beer lover in your life.

They’ll be tapping their Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Ale just in time for Christmas and be selling 22 oz bottles of their beers soon after Christmas.

Their hours are: Calendar Front

  • Friday, December 19:  noon – 8pm
  • Saturday, December 20: noon – 10pm
  • Sunday, December 21: noon – 4pm
  • Wednesday, December 24: 9am – noon (get your last minute shopping done, fill a growler, and have a pint while you wait)
  • Closed on Christmas

 

Boulevard Brewing Company

SnowglobeBoulevard has pretty much anything you could want in a gift from a brewery.  Items for men, women, kids, even pets are available on their website, at the brewery, or at their Dry Goods Store at the Plaza.  Highlights in the selection include a snowglobe with a small scale brewery, a dog hoodie with the moniker “Beer Retriever” and sweaters for your bottles – Freakers.

Boulevard recently released their lineup for 2015, that include 12 new brews.

Their hours are 10am – 5pm everyday, but they’ll be closed Christmas Day.

 

Cinder Block Brewery

Cinder BlockCinder Block’s best gift is the gift of their beer in one of the coolest growlers.  Their stainless steel, vacuum insulated, double wall barrel style growler can hold 64 oz of any of their great beers and it keeps cold for up to three days outside of the fridge.

They are also running specials when you  buy items from their taproom.  Buy a growler and a t-shirt get a free glass; buy a gift card and a growler get a free glass and one free beer; buy a growler, t-shirt, and gift card get two free glasses and two free beers.  These specials are good through December 23.

Cinder Block will be open normal hours through December 23, but will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

 

KC Bier Company

Martin City Brewing Company

martincityTheir newest addition to their line of glassware, the pictured chalice, is perfect for their superb beer.  Embellished with their logo on one side and a fun train on the other, this will be a great addition to anyone’s glassware collection.

Martin City Brewing will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Party with access to all three location.  It’s $25 per person that includes a dinner buffet, two bands, drink specials, and a champagne toast.

Thanksgiving Week Specials & Hours

Growler, gift cards, and gobblers!  Whether you’re looking for a perfect gift, or just want to drink a beer – here’s your guide to the beer scene’s Thanksgiving happenings.

 

Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve

  • Bier Station will be hosting a Home for the Holidays Keg Challenge at their place in Waldo.  Beers from Free State (Lawrence), Tallgrass (Manhattan), and Rock Ridge (Columbia) will compete to have the honor of having their school banner hanging in Bier Station for the rest of the year.  First keg emptied will win.
  • Big Rip will be open normal hours, 4pm until 9pm.  64oz growler fills are $2 off and 32oz squealers are $1 every Wednesday.
  • Boulevard will be open their regular hours both at their brewery and Dry Goods Store at the Plaza, 10am – 7pm.
  • Boulevard will be showcasing some of their beers at Rimann Liquors in Lenexa from 4:30pm until 6:30pm.
  • Cinder Block will be open from 2pm until 9pm.  They’ll be filling growlers of their beer for $10 all day.
  • It’s Brewery Night at Flying Saucer.  Urban Chestnut will be the featured brewery starting at 7pm.  Buy the beer and get a ceramic mug from Urban Chestnut to keep.  A great gift for the beer lover in your family!
  • High Noon Saloon & Brewery up in Leavenworth will be open at 11am.  They’ll be hosting Leavenworth’s Annual Party 4 a Cause (Beast B4 the Feast) from 8pm until midnight featuring DJ Smiley.  There will be a collection box for non-perishable food and new or gently used warmth items.  The collection box will be at High Noon through December 21.  Also, starting on Thanksgiving Eve, for every $50 Gift Card you buy from them, you get a free $10 Gift Certificate.

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day

  • Big Rip will be pouring growlers from 9am until noon.  Last year, they’re was a waiting line, so they’ll be serving beer while you wait for your growler.  The perfect last minute treat to bring to your Thanksgiving Dinner!
  • The Foundry and Beer Kitchen will be open at 6pm to serve 1/2 price fall seasonal beers and happy hour food specials all night.

Friday, Black Friday

  • Apex Brew Wares will be open from 10am until 7pm and have the following deals.
    • 1) Brand New Italian Made 5 gallon ball lock kegs on sale again this year for $99. That’s $30 off regular price.
    • 2) 10 Gallon Igloo Mash Tuns with S/S false bottom and fittings for $139.99. That’s also $30 off regular price. We are limiting the to the 3 we have on hand so don’t dilly dally. No rain checks.
    • 3) We will add 20% to $25,$50, $75 and $100 Gift Certificates. So if you buy any of the above denomination , we add a second certificate for 20% more. ***Cannot be used day of purchase.
  • Bier Station will open at 11am on this day for their “Black Friday Taps” including Bourbon County Stout, Bourbon County Barleywine, Boulevard Imperial Stout, Prairie Christmas BOMB!, and more.
  • Cinder Block will have a Black Friday treat at 3pm.
  • Crawford Sales is having a Release Party for Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout at various locations.  At noon, they’ll be at Barley’s Brewhaus on Midland, 2pm at Rock & Brews, 4pm at Grinders Stonewall in Lenexa, and at 6pm at The Peanut in Overland Park.
  • Grains & Taps will be participating in Black Friday at their location in Lee’s Summit.  No need to get up early for this event featuring excellent and exciting Black Friday Deals.  You must purchase a $35 ticket (that will be turned into a $35 gift card you can use on Black Friday or any day after) to attend the event.  Tickets are limited.  Starts promptly at 7pm and runs until 9pm.  About every 10 minutes a new deal will be announced for particular home brew or wine making products.

New Beer Releases

Boulevard, Big Rip, and 4 Hands all have new beer releases.  A mix of the seasons as we have a Nutcracker Ale, Amber Ale, Wheat Wine, and Pumpkin Porter all being released.

Harvest Dance Wheat WineBoulevard Brewing Company is releasing their popular Nutcracker Ale today, but it will taste slightly different than in previous years.  Although the ale was dry hopped, it was not dry hopped with wet hops this year.  This should eliminate the green characteristic and really bring out the holiday spices.  Another release today from Boulevard is their Smokestack Seasonal Harvest Dance Wheat Wine.  This beer has a fruity aroma with sweet malt notes and the flavor has a complex blend of sweet, bready malt, vanilla, oak, and a slighty vinous backnote.

A few more coming soon releases from Boulevard are their collaboration with Odell Brewing – Silver Anniversary Ale and another addition to their Backroads Beer Series – Last Splash.

Big Rip Brewing Company released their very first Amber Ale last week.  T.H.i.C. Amber Ale was released just in time for their Ripper Halloween Party last Saturday.  At 5.6% ABV, it’s a nice keep-your-pace beer.

4 Hands Brewing Co is releasing their Imperial Pumpkin Porter, ILL Repute, to their markets tomorrow.  It’s their 3rd collaboration with Schnucks Markets, which is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year.  It’s an 8.5% beer that is brewed with pumpkin, nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon.

Update- A few more releases:

Cinder Block released their Rough Cut Lager and a Cherry English Cider.  The Lager is a full bodied, crisp continental lager with an ABV of 6.5% and 21 IBUs.  The Cider is made with Michigan Tart Cherries and has an upfront barrel note with the taste of cherries to finish.  6% ABV with a smooth, drinkable mouth-feel, makes this cider a bit dangerous.

KC Bier Company will be releasing their Winterbock mid-to-late November.  It’s slated to be at the 4th Annual Westport Strong Ale Fest on November 15.
